Syracuse, NY – June 2016 / Newsmaker Alert / One of the greatest albums in all of rock n’ roll will be performed on the Chevy Court stage when Brian Wilson celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Beach Boys’ legendary “Pet Sounds” album at 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 29 at the Great New York State Fair, Acting Director Troy Waffner announced. Wilson will be joined by Al Jardine, Blondie Chaplin and his band. They will take the audience through every song on the album, and will also perform other hits and fan favorites from more than half a century of their music.

“Pet Sounds” is universally hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time. In 1965, with the Beach Boys out on tour, Wilson began session work on some of the most deeply personal recordings of his career. Inspired by The Beatles’ “Rubber Soul,” he challenged himself to create an immaculate musical masterpiece. A vast departure from the band’s then commercial sound, the resulting concept album “Pet Sounds” achieved great critical and commercial success, helping create a new musical landscape.

“It’s really been a trip to sit here and think about releasing “Pet Sounds” 50 years ago,” says Wilson, a legendary writer, producer, arranger and performer of some of the most cherished music in pop music history. “I love performing this album with my band and look forward to playing it for fans all across the world.”

“This is a very special, once in a lifetime event. We’re thrilled to have been able to secure a performance of this magnitude and I know this will be a magical night for fans of that band and album, but also a great night for others to discover some of the most important music of its time. Our theme this year is ‘Find Your Great.’ People will absolutely find something great in this show,” said Waffner.

Wilson’s performance happens on the first of two Senior Days at the Fair. Adults age 60 and over get into the Fair for free on those days.
