The Many Forms of Content,
by Timothy Schneider, Publisher, Association News
|
Los
Angeles, CA – April 2016 / Newsmaker Alert / Since October 1976, Association
News has served as a trusted source of information for association
executives and meeting planners. As we head toward our 40th anniversary
in October, we’ve already been celebrating this milestone not just with
a call-out on the front cover of the magazine but also by creating even
more ways to be of service to the association management profession and
those who support it.

In
addition to publishing this magazine every month, we are producing the
Meetings
Quest series of educational programs and trade shows. Organizing a
dynamic live event with opportunities for face-to-face interaction also
allows us keen insights into the world of meeting planning. Those insights
then further inform our editorial content on the planning of meetings and
events.
Of
course, content is a term that is more broadly defined by media companies
than it once was. These days, smart media companies are providing content
in whatever formats their audiences are likely to prefer it. At our company,
we’ve embraced a “mobile first” philosophy for content delivery, given
the insatiable appetite our readers have for consuming content on mobile
devices. Mobile first is a further permutation of the “digital first” approach
we embraced with the advent of the Internet and the subsequent launch of
digital versions of our magazines.
Where
once Association News was updated for our readers monthly, our editors
now continually update the information we provide in real time through
our social media channels and on AssociationNews.com.
If you’re serious about staying up-to-date on the important news from the
association management and meetings industries, our late-breaking news
alerts are available by subscription on our website or by following us
on the most popular social media sites.
As
an additional component of our mobile first strategy, many of our stories
now come to life through interactive features in our digital editions and
through creative video storytelling. The videos are especially popular
among those who are looking for a quick, easy-to-digest summary or enjoy
the visual elements of a story. And many of the growing number of videos
now offered through our social media channels and AssociationNews.com
augment the coverage in the magazine, including exclusive interviews with
prominent figures in the worlds of travel and association management.
Leading
our company’s charge on content strategy is Jen Rottenberg, chief content
officer. Our editorial staff, led by Editor Ann Shepphird, includes several
talented content specialists, including Jennifer Lee, who was recently
promoted to senior associate editor; Timothy Maxwell, who was recently
promoted to digital, social media and web editor; and Javier Mosquera,
our video content producer.
To
experience our content coming to life, plan now to join us at Meetings
Quest in Bloomington, Minnesota, July 13–14. Crisis management, event security,
drones at events and IndyCar racing legend Lyn St. James are all on the
program. For more information, see
the ad on page 27, visit MeetingsQuest.com
or call 877-577-3700.
