See more than
100 quilts in the ‘Most Beautiful Small Town in America’

Bardstown,
KY – June 2015 / Newsmaker Alert / View more than 100 quilts on Friday
and Saturday, July 17 and 18, 2015, during Quilt Sharing Day in Bardstown,
Ky. The quilts – each one telling a story about why or who or how they
were acquired – will be on display at three historic downtown churches,
not far from Bardstown’s Court Square, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.
|
“We
spread the quilts from the congregation across the pews, separating them
so they don’t ‘fight’ with each other,” said Dixie Hibbs, event chairperson
and manager of Bardstown’s historic Wickland Home of Three Governors. “The
beautiful stained glass windows let in colors of sunshine very much like
the patches in the quilts.”
While
seeing the handiwork of many quilters, enjoy the beautiful church architecture
of the 1827 Presbyterian, 1856 Methodist and 1895 Episcopal churches. Antique
and new quilts and wall hangings will all be on display. The churches are
within one block of each other; two are fully handicap-accessible. Admission:
$6. All proceeds go to the churches.
With
its picturesque Court Square, charming restaurants in historic settings,
an abundance of locally-owned shops and a half dozen distilleries, Bardstown
makes a fantastic weekend getaway. Choose a couple distilleries to tour
and taste the flavor nuances of different bourbons made within miles of
each other. Buy tickets for “The Stephen Foster Story”; productions are
scheduled for 8 p.m. on both July 17 and 18.
Find
a new favorite bed and breakfast inn – there are 17 in Bardstown, including
the world’s first bourbon-themed B&B, a “Painted Lady,” a former jailer’s
residence with jail cell guestroom and a Federal-style home with spectacular
view of My Old Kentucky Home from its double front porches.
