Instead of cruising around the Valley in the shiny new sports car and enjoying the designer watch, Barnett sold the prizes and returned $120,000 to his general managers, assistant managers and hourly managers as bonuses for their hard work. “Our managers work the long hours to ensure success, so they deserve the prize, not me,” Barnett said. “The national award is a testament of our managers’ daily dedication to high-quality customer service.” Barnett announced the bonuses during a managers’ meeting. The managers were stunned and touched by the bonus, said Olga Barajas, a general manager of a Burger King in Flagstaff. “It was completely shocking that Tom sold the Corvette and Rolex watch to give us bonuses. None of the managers expected it,” Barajas said. “Tom didn’t have to share the prizes with us and many CEOs wouldn’t do that. He is very humble and selfless.
