Naples,
FL – February 2018 / Newsmaker Alert / Ann
Del Pero, Allied ASID, IDS, interior designer with leading furnishings
retailer Clive Daniel Home, has
recently been named a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS). In the
new role, Del Pero will combine her extensive international interior design
experience with her CAPS training to help her clients modify their homes
and changing lifestyles for aging-in-place.
“The
majority of Americans over the age of 50 want to continue living in a familiar
environment throughout their maturing years,” explained Ann. “According
to the AARP, older homeowners overwhelmingly prefer to age in place, which
means living in their home safely, independently and comfortably, regardless
of age or ability level. I realized there is a definite need in our area
for an interior designer who can help seniors make these modifications
to their homes as they age to help increase safety, access and maneuverability
for ease of use.”
Ann
has been lecturing to the public and to private associations on this topic.
Her next seminar “How to prepare your house for your evolving lifestyle
changes” will take place on Wednesday, March 14 at Clive Daniel Home
(CDH) in Naples, FL at 2pm. For more information and to rsvp, contact CDH
at 239-213-7844.

Some
of the most requested aging-in-place improvements include: installing bath
and shower grab bars, creating curb-less showers, adding higher toilettes,
adjustment of countertop heights, adding task lighting and the creation
of multifunctional first floor master suites. Aging seniors often need
to install private elevators, widen doorways, and build ramps or lower-thresholds
on doors.
While
this may seem to be the work of a general contractor, CAPS professionals
like Ann Del Pero have been taught the strategies and techniques for designing
and building aesthetically enriching, barrier-free living environments.
Adding comfort, safety and ease of use in a home means seamlessly blending
these characteristics into the architectural style of the home. Her 30+
years in the design field as an Interior Architect and Space Planner, furniture
and industrial designer and university professor make her uniquely qualified
to help each customer with their special needs and select appropriate vendors
when needed.
Ann
holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Architecture from the Rhode Island
School of Design, a Master’s certificate in Industrial Design and Design
Management from Milan, Italy and a Masters in Museum Studies from Johns
Hopkins University.
Working
as an interior designer and design journalist, Ann has lived and worked
in Milan, Italy for more than 25 years with her Italian husband, holds
dual US and Italian citizenships, and is fluent in Italian. The couple
has lived part time in Naples for 15 years.
The
National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) in collaboration with the
NAHB Research Center, NAHB 50+ Housing Council, and AARP developed the
Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist (CAPS) education program to help serve
the growing number of consumers that will soon require these modifications.
While most CAPS professionals are remodelers, an increasing number are
general contractors, interior designers, architects, and health care consultants.
Since 2002, nearly 4,000 individuals have earned the CAPS designation.
The
CAPS program teaches the technical, business management, and customer service
skills essential to competing in the fastest growing segment of the residential
remodeling industry: home modifications for the aging-in-place.
Clive
Daniel Home (www.CliveDaniel.com)
applauds Ann Del Pero’s dedication to share her interior design skills
with prospective customers to help them make their home safer, more visitor
“friendly” and prepare it for the future at the ‘aging-in-place’ juncture
of their lives.
