Farmington, NY – July 2017 / Newsmaker Alert / Twisted Tom was a one-half length winner of the 45th running of the $160,150 New York Derby at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack (FLGR) on Saturday (July 22). He covered the one mile and one-sixteenth route for New York-bred 3-year-olds in a final time of 1:44.52.

The chestnut gelding tracked the pace setters before making an early move on the leader. He was then engaged in a late battle with Broken Engagement. He outdueled his rival to score the significant triumph under jockey Feargal Lynch.

Twisted Tom was a participant in the Belmont Stakes on June 10 before his successful visit to FLGR. The Chad Brown-trainee recorded his fifth victory in his eighth lifetime start on Saturday and improved his lifetime earnings to a sum of $350,131. He was the popular choice in the wagering and paid $3.50, $2.70 and $2.10. Broken Engagement returned $4.90 and $3.40 for second. Pat On the Back was third and paid $2.90.

New York Oaks
Jockey Dylan Davis continued his FLGR success with a victory in the 31st renewal of the $75,000 New York Oaks. Davis guided Bonita Bianca to a narrow win in the stake for New York-bred 3-year-old fillies.

Bonita Bianca completed the one mile and one-sixteenth route in a final time of 1:46.72. She chased down longshot PlayinWithTheBoys in the final stages to secure the neck victory.

The $323,000 earner registered her fourth career victory and paid $4.40, $3.30 and $2.10. Playinwiththeboys returned $9.30 and $3.00 for finishing second and Tiznow’s Smile paid $2.10 for third.

Davis has won a total of four FLGR stakes over the last two seasons. Davis directed Pat On the Back to two of the notable wins before finishing third with that competitor in the New York Derby.

Cobra Farm, R. R. Partners and Head of Plains Partners were the winning owners of the seventh race with Twisted Tom. Michael Dubb, Bethlehem Stables and Michael Imperio collected the trophy for the top performance of Bonita Bianca in the sixth race.
