Over 200 attendees representing the six organizations joined together to cheer their causes on. Each selected one horse in each of the six designated races and earned points based on any finishing in the top three, with the group accumulating the most points at the end of the day receiving a $10,000 donation and the Charity Cup.

Here are the final standings and total donations received:

The organizations along with the programs to be supported are as follows:

Literacy Volunteers of Ontario-Yates, Inc. – LVOY’s mission is to help adults acquire the literacy skills needed to reach their full potential as individuals, parents, workers and citizens. Funds from the Charity Cup will be used to purchase additional education supplies to serve a greater number of the 7% of the area in need of literacy services and, ultimately, reduce the illiteracy rate.

Finger Lakes Visiting Nurse Service – FLVNS provides compassionate, quality home health and hospice care to individuals and families, regardless of ability to pay. Funding will support this program that relies on gifts to provide skilled services to over 3,000 in our community.

Happiness House / CP Rochester – Happiness House is an educational, residential, health and human service organization that provides services to children with and without disabilities. CP Rochester supports individuals of all ages and abilities with a range of health, educational and support services. These two organizations are partnering in this year’s event to support their combined SportsNet program efforts. SportsNet is an adaptive spots and recreation program that celebrates the accomplishments of all athletes and abilities within sports such as skiing, golf and power wheelchair soccer, among others.

National Center for Missing & Exploited Children / New York Regional Office – NCMEC/NY works to prevent child abduction and sexual exploitation; help find missing children; and assist victims of abduction, sexual exploitation, their families and the professionals who serve them. Plans for funding from the Charity Cup include expansion of their KidSmartz and NetSmartz programs that teach safe behaviors in public and online, which currently reach over 31,000 children annually.

Family Counseling Service of the Finger Lakes, Inc. – Family Counseling Service of the Finger Lakes provides professional counseling and support services to individuals and families to improve their quality of life at home and in the community. Funding from this year’s event will enhance trauma therapy services currently being provided to over 2400 people throughout Ontario and Wayne counties.

Scottsville Veterinary Adoptions – SVA is a non-profit, no-kill shelter that advocates juvenile spaying and neutering and also specializes in rescuing dogs from shelters in poverty stricken areas in southern states to make available for local adoption. Animals being rescued from these shelters would most likely be euthanized within 24 hours of arrival due to a lack of resources and overpopulation if not for the work of organizations such as SVA. Additional funds would allow for more of these rescues to occur.

FLGR received over 40 applications for entry into the 2015 Charity Cup and selected six charities to participate. Selection was based on several factors including, but not limited to, an assessment of overall need, services provided, the program to be supported, and the potential impact within our community.

Additionally, in 2015 FLGR is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its parent company, Delaware North, which has been grounded in family ownership and headquartered in Buffalo, New York since 1915. To celebrate Delaware North’s community stewardship over that time, this year’s event was themed ‘Making a difference, 100 lives at a time!’ As such, organizations were also challenged to demonstrate how funds from the event could assist in impacting 100 lives locally.
