2017 Live Thoroughbred Racing Season Concludes at FLGR

Farmington, NY – November 2017 / Newsmaker Alert / The 2017 live thoroughbred racing season at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack (FLGR) came to an end on Tuesday, November 28. The meet concluded with Kerry Boy taking the Closing Day feature race under jockey Luis Perez.

The 5-year-old gelding scored his third straight triumph for trainer Gabriel Goodwin. He covered the one mile and one-eighth distance of the ninth race in a final time of 1:53.52.

Top Performers
Breakin the Fever won the honor of FLGR "Horse of the Year" for the third consecutive season. The 5-year-old New York-bred owned and trained by Debra Breed has dominated the sprinter division at his home track with 17 victories in 20 career FLGR starts.

The fast gelding won two stakes at FLGR this year under jockey Nazario Alvarado. He took the $50,000 George Barker Stakes on June 5 and the $50,000 Leon Reed Memorial Stakes on October 9.

Satin Frost recorded the most FLGR victories in 2017. The 6-year-old mare won six of her eight starts this season for trainer Daniel Conway.

Our Caravan broke a long standing track record for the one mile and 40 yard distance. The Michael S. Ferraro-trainee finished the sixth race on November 14 in a final time of 1:40.05 under jockey Elias Peltroche. The previous mark was set by Gallant Tiger in 1975.

John Davila, Jr. claimed the 2017 FLGR jockey title with a total of 183 triumphs. He now holds a record total of 14 career FLGR rider titles.

Jeremiah Englehart was the top conditioner for the second straight season. He finished the meet with a total of 142 victories.

2017 Highlights
Chris Englehart became the first FLGR trainer to reach 4,000 career win mark. He reached the milestone on June 3. The 62 year-old from Canandaigua, NY was officially inducted into the FLGR Hall of Fame in November.

Englehart started as a hot walker at FLGR in 1967.? His training career began in 1973 and he registered his first FLGR title in 1985. He has since earned a total of 15 lifetime training titles.

Englehart enjoyed over a decade of supremacy as the top FLGR trainer every year from 2003 to 2015.

Trainer Bruce D. Anderson notched his 1000th career win at FLGR on June 12. He reached the milestone when Sisters for Ever scored a narrow victory in the sixth race under jockey Joshua Navarro.

Finger Lakes will remain in operation during the winter months for simulcast wagering with up to seven tracks per day. Live thoroughbred action will resume in the spring with the start of the 2018 meet.
