The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake launches new guided tour packages
|
Geneva-on-the-Lake, OH – October 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake is helping guests uncover Ashtabula County’s hidden treasures with the launch of new guided tour packages. The overnight packages for two provide guests with a relaxing midweek getaway experience, with a shuttle guided tour that explores the historical highlights and wonder of the Ashtabula Harbor, Ashtabula County’s famous covered bridges, Ohio vineyards and more.

The Lodge’s new guided tour packages give guests a firsthand look at the history and beauty of Ashtabula County without having to worry about traffic, following a GPS or even reading a map. Weekday guided tour packages include:

Tuesdays - Ashtabula Harbor Guided Tour

  • October 7, 21 and 28 (tours start at 1:00 p.m.)
The Ashtabula Harbor tour includes a visit to Bridge Street, the site of the Ashtabula Railroad Disaster and nearby Smolen Gulf Covered Bridge, the longest covered bridge in the country. While on Bridge Street, there will be time to shop and enjoy an ice cream cone or cup of coffee from Harbor Perk before departing for the Bridge Disaster site.

Wednesdays – Covered Bridge Guided Tour

  • October 8, 22 and 29 (tours start at 1:00 p.m.)
Three covered bridge tours will be offered including:
  • October 8 - The Town Lattice tour which explores the quaint diagonal design used extensively on short span bridges with a stop at the Olin Covered Bridge Museum
  • October 22 - Covered Bridges Photo tour which shares tips for photographing covered bridges and the autumn landscape
  • October 29 - Bridges Over the Grand which visits covered bridges that span the Grand River
Thursdays – Vineyard Guided Tour
  • October 9, 23 and 30 (tours start at 1:00 p.m.)
Three vineyard guided tours will explore the region’s thriving wine industry:
  • October 9 - Markko Vineyard tour which explores vintner Arnie Esterer’s beautiful vineyards and spotlights the challenges of growing vinifera grapes in Northeast Ohio’s harsh climate
  • October 23 - More than Wine explores commercial fruit growers and includes a visit to Brant’s Apple Orchard and the Agricultural Research Station (there is a $5 per person admission surcharge for this tour)
  • October 30 - Wine, Beer and Bourbon tour will visit the Red Eagle Distillery, Ashtabula County’s first distillery, and the South River Vineyard. Samples will be available (additional fee). Then travel to Cellar Rats in Madison Township, where craft beer is brewed by the son of winery pioneer Anthony Debevc.
The Lodge’s Guided Tour Packages include an overnight stay for two, with lunch and breakfast, and a three-hour guided tour. Packages start from $169 plus tax, per couple. Guests much check in prior to the tour. In addition to the overnight packages, local residents can also enjoy the guided tours. Tickets for the 1:00 p.m. tours are $18 per person.
