Twins and Delaware North Sportservice Add to
Variety of Specialty Menu Items in the Target Field Food Lineup
|
Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN – April 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / The Minnesota Twins and their exclusive food service and retail partner Delaware North Companies Sportservice announce the addition of a variety of specialty foods at Target Field for the 2014 season.

The additions are highlighted by a unique item from Butcher and the Boar, additional Valentini Supper Club specialties and hand-dipped cones and cups from Izzy’s Ice Cream.

At a new Butcher and the Boar grill inside Gate 34, Sportservice will serve a BBQ Basket of Rib Tips with house-made spicy pickles, local craft beers, Knob Creek bourbon and Jim Beam batch cocktails. Located in downtown Minneapolis, Butcher and the Boar was created in 2012 and has focused on a fusion of top-quality food from Minnesota’s German-American heritage, BBQ and Mississippi River Delta favorites – all with great beers and bourbons. The restaurant was a 2013 James Beard Award semifinalist for best new restaurant and 2012 Star Tribune Restaurant of the Year.

Sportservice has added two Valentini’s Supper Club items to the Target Field menu: the Valentini’s Porketta “Slugger,” Iron Range porketta and cream cheese rolled in an eggroll and served with a house-made red sauce, and the Valentini’s Italian Burger, a meatball put in patty form, grilled and topped with pepperoni, provolone cheese, and house-made red sauce and served on a potato roll. These new items are available at the State Fair Classics stand. In addition, the easier-to-eat Valentini’s Bucket of Mini Meatballs has replaced the Mega Meatball at Frankie V’s stands. Valentini’s, the iconic Chisholm, MN supper club, has had a presence at Target Field since 2012.

Hand-dipped cones and cups of Izzy’s Ice Cream, founded by Minnesotans Lara Hammel and Jeff Sommers, will be served inside Gate 14 near Hrbek’s. With two prime locations in the Twin Cities, Izzy’s offers a wide variety of traditional flavors, including the signature The Izzy Scoop®, which is a little ¾ ounce scoop of your desired flavor on top of your desire base ice cream.

Here is a roundup of several other new options:

  • Twins fans will also have another great BBQ option with a new Smoked BBQ Beef Brisket Sandwich, in-house smoked and then fresh-carved at the Gate 6 Carvery.
  • Specialty Cider Cocktails are being featured at several portable concession carts, Hrbek’s and Town Ball Tavern. The signature “Angry Fastball” will feature Angry Orchard cider with cinnamon liqueur.
  • The Bigger, Better, Burger Bloody Mary provides not just a wonderful cocktail but more to “eat” in the drink itself, including a delicious bacon cheeseburger slider.
Of course, the Twins and Sportservice will continue to feature many of the signature menu items that have been introduced during Target Field’s first four seasons and that fans have come to love. Among them, the Murray’s Steak Sandwich, El Burrito Mercado’s Walk A Taco, Andrew Zimmern’s Canteen, Loon Café Chili, Mac’s Fish and Chips, Panino’s Baked Sandwiches, Tony O’s Cuban Sandwich, Turkey to Go, the Minneapple Pie, Kramarczuk’s sausages, and Sheyboygan sausages.

“Sportservice is proud to have an outstanding lineup of foods and beverages for fans at Target Field, and we’re making room for a few more regionally inspired options and specialty beverages,” said Pete Spike, general manager for Sportservice at Target Field.

“The Twins will continue to make food and beverage offerings a top priority to enhance the overall game day experience at Target Field,” said Dave St. Peter, Twins president. “The high quality products, local favorites and unparalleled selection have played a significant role in making Target Field one of America’s greatest sports venues.”

In addition, fans will continue to enjoy offerings from Twins partners such as Pepsi, Schweigert™, Barrel O’ Fun, Caribou Coffee, Angie’s Kettle Corn, Fisher Nuts, SuperMom’s Mini Donuts, Country Hearth, Old Dutch, Killebrew Root Beer, Giant Snacks and B. Smith Olive Oil.

The Twins Territory Market in Section 112 will continue to feature healthier menu items that are perfect for those with dietary needs or sensitive to food allergies.

Roots for the Home Team returns to Target Field in 2014 to provide fresh, locally-grown produce to the ballpark on Saturdays and Sundays starting in June. Using vegetables and herbs they have grown, participating youth from ethnically diverse areas of the Twin Cities develop and sell tasty, creative salad recipes at Target Field.

Papa John’s Pizza also continues in the culinary lineup at Target Field, serving personal pizzas from Frankie V’s concession locations on the main and terrace levels.

Kemps will provide fans with Kemps soft-serve ice cream and novelties at locations throughout the ballpark and vended in the stands. Returning is the Kemps “Joe Mauer” malt cup, a fan favorite.

New on the club and suite menus
Sportservice Executive Chef Pastor Jimenez is converting the standard buffet in the Metropolitan Club to an ala carte menu featuring a wide selection of custom options and a focus on shared meals.

In addition, suite guests will enjoy a wider selection of options from portable carts – including raw bar, antipasto and Blood Mary carts – in addition to standard suite menus.

Returning Beverages
The Twins and Sportservice are also proud to partner with and serve locally-based 2 Gingers Irish Whiskey. The 2 Gingers Pubs feature the Big Ginger; a signature cocktail made of 2 Gingers Irish Whiskey, ginger ale, with lemon and lime garnish.

While Anheuser-Busch remains the official beer partner of the Minnesota Twins, in recent years the Twins have expanded their selection of local craft beers. Brews from Surly, Fulton, Summit, Lift Bridge, Finnegans and Schell’s will be available at various locations throughout Target Field.

Taste of Target Field Food Truck
The Twins and Sportservice launched their new food truck, the “Taste of Target Field,” in August, and the truck will continue to be seen around the Twin Cities and be available for special events. The truck features a variety of delicious ballpark fare, including sausages from Kramarczuk’s, helmet nachos, hot dogs from Schweigert and the Kemps “Joe Mauer” malt cup. Food truck aficionados can find information about the location of the truck as well as daily menus by following @TastyTwinsTruck on Twitter or by visiting www.TwinsBaseball.com/tasty.
