Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack Supports Michael’s Meanies
|
Find Out How You Can Join Team Michael
|
Wheeling, WV – March 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack is helping to support Michael Carroll and his Michael’s Meanies project for children with cancer.

“I wanted to give something to the kids that they could take their anger out on. I thought of making these into a stress ball like toy that the kids can squeeze hard, punch or even throw them,” explained Michael. “My ultimate goal is for every child diagnosed with cancer to get one during their treatment.”

Wheeling Island associates will be participating in the drive with a donation for Jeans and Jersey days each Friday. Customers will be able to contribute cash, table chips or slot tickets in the drop boxes located at the front of the gaming floor and 2nd floor racing.

Three stress ball toys, named Terry “The Terrible” Tumor, Lily Lymphoma and “Lousy” Louie Leukemia, are available to purchase in the Wheeling Island Gift Shop for $3. The sale of Michael’s Meanies allows Michael to provide the toys to children in participating hospitals at no cost.

Wheeling Island has also teamed up with Lamar Advertising to sponsor a billboard on Interstate 70 encouraging drivers to Join Michael’s Team!

When asked about this project, Kim Florence, Senior Director of Marketing said, “Michael is a very special kid. We felt the need to help because what Michael is doing with his Meanies is genuine; he is helping other kids without looking for anything in return. You don’t see that kind of selflessness everyday.”
