Clayton,
GA – April 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / The second cycling event in the
2014 Gran Fondo National Championship Series
(GFNCS) will kick-off at 8AM on Sunday, April 13 in Clayton, Georgia.
The
Tour of Georgia Gran Fondo, GFNCS Round #2, will begin and finish in downtown
Clayton on Sunday, April 13, 2014. The Tour of Georgia Gran Fondo is a
bike ride/race that is part of the Gran Fondo National Championship Series.
“This year the organizers are expecting several hundred riders for the
event with a goal of building the event to 1,500+ riders over the next
several years. The event will have three distance options: 33 miles, 69
miles and 108 miles.”
Registration
is available in person before the start and online at www.granfondonationalchampionshipseries.com/registration.
Reuben
Kline, president of Gran Fondo National Championship Series, LLC., said,
“We’re very excited to stage the 2nd round of the 2014 GFNCS in the mountains
of Georgia. This is a beautiful and exciting event. We really appreciate
the support of the people of Clayton, Rabun County, and the surrounding
communities.” The event will have four timed sections and the rider with
the lowest combined times will be the winner. Awards will be given out
for the overall winners of each distance and for age group winners. The
event is open to everyone. The finish party and award ceremonies will be
at the U-Joint in downtown Clayton, GA.
“I’m
excited the organizers chose Clayton for this event,” said Earnhardt of
the Rabun County Tourism Development Authority (TDA). “It will bring in
people from all over the region, many who have never been here, and they
will come, experience the beauty and adventure, and return.” The first
round of the 2014 Gran Fondo National Championship Series was held last
month in Dade City, FL. They had participants came from as far away as
New York, California, Canada, and Brazil. 24 years ago organizers started
the now famous Six Gap Century out of Dahlonega with a few riders. This
year almost 2,500 participants attended the Six Gap Century; we hope to
see a similar growth with the Tour of Georgia Gran Fondo.
The
Gran Fondo National Championship Series (SM), established in 2012, is comprised
of six European?style ride/races staged in the United States and is sponsored
