“Housekeeping Olympics was pioneered at Grand Pacific Resorts about seven years ago to show deep appreciation for the tireless efforts provided by the housekeeping teams,” explains Amanda Montijo, General Manager of the Coronado Beach Resort and Housekeeping Olympics organizer, “While our company celebrates their housekeepers throughout the year, once a year we go all out and culminate our appreciation with this event. This lets housekeepers know that management recognizes and appreciates their work.” Each
Southern California resort performed preliminary Housekeeping Olympic events
like fastest towel folding and bed making, and towel origami. Champions
at those resorts were then sent to compete at the company-wide
Olympics held at Grand Pacific Palisades Resort and Hotel on Sept.
28, 2017 where associates eagerly encouraged the friendly competitions
by creating unique resort ‘cheers,’ coordinated team colors, and customized
t-shirts to help inspire team spirit.

After the event housekeeping teams were invited to a catered party complete with a mariachi band to continue the celebration of the contributions and skills that housekeepers make at each resort. “It’s a huge morale booster,” says Carlos Carranza, Facilities Manager at Coronado Beach Resort. “We are a small resort in Coronado, with a small housekeeping staff. When they go to the Housekeeping Olympics and see associates from the other resorts, they realize they’re not alone – there’s an entire industry out there that does the same work they do. And they talk about it for weeks afterwards.” Housekeeping Olympics is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year for Grand Pacific Resorts. The event helps highlight the importance of all housekeepers and their roles in helping provide vacations for 70,000 families each year. “This small investment of time and energy results in extremely high engagement from all of our housekeeping participants and shows the serious pride they have in their profession and resort,” said Nigel Lobo, COO of Grand Pacific Resorts. “It’s also a lot of fun.” Grand Pacific Resorts takes pride in their team and is looking to add more bright hospitality stars.
