Philadelphia, PA – January 2016 / Newsmaker Alert / Former Hospitality Industry executive Michael Lyons has reinvented himself as a professional motivational speaker and actor and has a busy 2016 in front of him. Hospitality Industry Veteran Lyons ''Living the Dream''Over the past 25 years while building a successful track record in his “day job” in the meetings/travel industry, Lyons maintained a secondary occupation as a professional actor. His passion for that profession (and as a motivational speaker, Emcee and Sinatra-style singer), led him to a life-changing decision in the summer of 2014: After considerable deliberation, he resigned from his position as Exhibition Director of IBTM America with Reed Exhibitions, and redirected all of his time and efforts to being a full time actor and speaker, with a few Emcee/Singer gigs sprinkled in. “After 42 years as a business executive, I thought it was the right time to make the move,” said Lyons, a resident of Philadelphia, PA.

Over the years, while working for large firms such as Reed, Carlson Wagonlit Travel and Global Events Partners, Lyons appeared in major films, television shows and TV commercials (Advil, AT&T, Honey Bunches of Oats cereal, among others), and also amassed more than 350 live appearances on home shopping television network QVC as a product host. His credits include speaking parts in “The Sixth Sense”, “All My Children”, “Veep”, “Outsiders” – which will air on February 2 on cable channel WGN America – and “Arrest & Trial” among others. He will also be seen playing the Speaker of the House of Representatives in Season 4, Episode 2, of the popular Netflix series “House of Cards” when it is released March 4, 2016.

On the speaking circuit, Lyons has spent the past 18 months delivering inspirational messages to audiences of all ages and disciplines, both within and outside the meetings industry. In his talks, he uses examples of people like J. K. Rowling, Oprah Winfrey and others (as well as his own life) as proof that you’re never too old, poor, or down – nor is it ever too late – to reach your potential and do what you love. “In one of the talks I give,” he says, “I encourage people to pursue their passion, trust their instincts, and chase their dreams. So I am merely following my own advice.”

At Confex in London, Lyons will serve as a moderator for the keynotes, and will also deliver a talk of his own on the importance of constantly working to enhance the “Brand of You”. Lyons contends that as obvious as it may be, every one of us is unique and we represent our own distinct personal brand. And similar to commercial brands, the same disciplines of business branding must be applied to the process of creating, developing, managing and protecting our brands. The presentation will delve into issues such as how we present ourselves, how we behave and how we are perceived by our professional peers – which not only defines what our true brand is, but ultimately determines the level of success in our careers.
