NYS Awards Rome $1.4M for Next Phase of Mohawk River TrailThe city of Rome has been awarded $1.4 million to construct Phase II of the Mohawk River Trail. The Mohawk River Trail begins at Bellamy Harbor Park and extends throughout Rome – connecting areas such as commercial districts, city parks and the Griffiss Business and Technology Park – and ends at Wright Park.

The funding, which is made available through the Federal Highway Administration and administered by the state Department of Transportation, will provide up to 80 percent of the cost of east project.

Cuomo says that the state funding supports projects that include multi-use bicycle and pedestrian facilities, new accessible sidewalks that adhere to regulations under the Americans with Disabilities Act, improved access to transportation and enhanced roadway safety.

“Infrastructure preservation and improvements in the Mohawk Valley and Southern Tier are vitally important as they will help to ensure that residents in our small metro areas have better access to important resources throughout our communities, including public transportation,” said Congresswoman Claudia Tenney.
