Naples,
FL – December 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / When searching for a new job,
unless the applicant wants to become a sommelier in a fine restaurant or
a fragrance chemist in France, they are rarely required to list “sense
of smell “ as a required skill.
But
Tracy Sherles, the owner of Myxn
Scents – a retail store located in the up-scale Bayfront oasis
on Naples Bay near downtown Naples – knew that she needed an employee who
could tell the difference between the scent of a rose and a pine tree.
This is because Myxn Scents is dedicated to helping guests determine their
own preferred fragrance and then customize that scent into products for
their own personal use.

So
when Brenda Little walked into her store to apply for the assistant manager
position, Sherles knew right away she had hit the employee jackpot. For
more than 35 years, Llittle had worked in garden centers and florists …
businesses that required skill sets that were “scent specific.”
Commented
Sherles, “All scents basically begin with the earth. With Brenda’s extensive
background in scents, sales skills and her enthusiastic personality, she
has been the perfect fit for our store. There isn’t a smell she can’t identify.”
Here’s
why: For over 20 years, Little and her husband owned a 10-acre garden center
In Massillon, Ohio, with six greenhouses where she raised fragrant lilacs,
lavender, flowering trees and sold Christmas trees. After relocating to
Florida in 1999, she became store manager at Twigs on 5th Avenue North
and then interior plant designer with Grace Lakes Florist in Naples. During
her 11 years in Naples she sold all varieties of plants – container, indoor
and exterior – taught classes in repotting orchids, growing herbs, terrariums,
and succulents. Amazingly, both of these shops are located less than a
mile from Myxn Scents.
To
take her skills to the next professional level, she studied to become a
certified horticulturist, attending a 6-week course with the Florida Nursery
& Garden Landscaping Association.
Brenda
Little’s new position is a perfect match to her skills. “I love helping
customers determine their favorite scents and then mix and create their
own products,” she says. “It gives new meaning to the phrase ‘interactive’
and is a fun, easy and inexpensive shopping experience for men, women and
teens.”
Myxn
Scents customers add their own scents to a variety of lotions and oils,
bath and shower gels, exfoliation scrubs, shaving gel, and even pet shampoo.
Home care products can be created to freshen vacuum cleaner bags, tennis
shoes and small, enclosed environments. Myxn Scents tracks each special
formula, enabling customers to create other products in their own customized
scent, in person or via their website.
They also offer a wide selection of unique and affordable products such
as crackling wick candles, cut soaps.
Myxn
Scents is located at 457 Bayfront Place across from Tin City in downtown
Naples. Currently, the store is open from 11 am – 5 pm Monday through Saturday
and from 9 am – 3 pm on Sundays. Upon request, parties of four or more
can visit the Myxn Bar outside of regular hours. Contact the store at 239-280-0045
