Train Excursions at Steamtown National Historic Site

PA – June 2015 / Newsmaker Alert / Summer-time is fun-time, and Steamtown
National Historic Site has planned fun excursions for July! Celebrate
Independence Day, Saturday, July 4, with an excursion to East Stroudsburg’s
Freedom
Festival. Ride along a portion of the former Delaware, Lackawanna and
Western Railroad Pocono mainline into East Stroudsburg. A short four-block
walk from the station stop will find you at the Freedom Festival, featuring
food vendors, free entertainment, amusement rides and more. Visit www.eastburgalliance.com
for additional details. The trip will depart Steamtown at 9:00 a.m. and
return at 5:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $54.00 for adults 16 to 61, $49.00
for seniors 62 and older, and $32.00 for children aged 6-15. Children 5
and younger require a “no-charge” ticket, and all children must be accompanied
by a parent or guardian.
On
Sunday, July 5, the fun continues with an excursion to Cresco, featuring
an affordable ice cream social and free live music. You’ll also have time
to tour the restored passenger station, and purchase other light refreshments
or snacks during the station stop. The trip will depart Steamtown at 10:00
a.m. and return at 4:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $34.00 for adults 16 to
61, $29.00 for seniors 62 and older, and $22.00 for children aged 6-15.
Children 5 and younger require a “no-charge” ticket.
For
Saturday, July 11, we’ve planned an excursion to Olyphant: Queen City of
the Mid Valley! Enjoy local dining and shops in a quaint and friendly small-town
atmosphere, situated along the former Delaware and Hudson Railway mainline.
The trip will depart Steamtown at 12:00 p.m. and return at 5:00 p.m. Ticket
prices are $24.00 for adults 16 to 61, $29.00 for seniors 62 and older,
and $17.00 for children aged 6-15. Children 5 and younger require a “no-charge”
ticket.
Gouldsboro
Station is our destination on the following Saturday, July 18. Community
members are expected to showcase a “Roaring Twenties” theme. Light snacks
and refreshments will be available for sale, along with books and souvenirs.
The trip departs at 11:00 a.m., and returns at 3:00 p.m. Ticket prices
are $34.00 for adults 16 to 61, $29.00 for seniors 62 and older, and $22.00
for children aged 6-15. Children 5 and younger require a “no-charge” ticket,
and all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Visit
Moscow’s restored passenger and freight stations, with trips planned for
Sunday, July 19 and Saturday, July 25. Join us for a 26-mile roundtrip
to the borough of Moscow on the western edge of the Pocono Mountains, where
you also purchase light snacks or refreshments from members of the Lackawanna
& Wyoming Valley Railway Historical Society. Their efforts and donations
support the restoration of Steamtown’s Boston and Maine #3713 steam locomotive.
The trips will depart Steamtown at 12:30 p.m. and return at 3:00 p.m. Ticket
prices are $24.00 for adults 16 to 61, $22.00 for seniors 62 and older,
and $17.00 for children aged 6-15. Children 5 and younger require a “no-charge”
ticket.
To
end July, we’ll journey again to Cresco for their live “Music Sunday” event
on July 26. The excursion departs Steamtown at 10:00 a.m. and returns at
4:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $34.00 for adults 16 to 61, $29.00 for seniors
62 and older, and $22.00 for children aged 6-15. Children 5 and younger
require a “no-charge” ticket.
All
excursions are scheduled to operate with historic diesel locomotives. Train
reservations, along with additional info, are available by phoning 570-340-5204
daily from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Fares include the park entrance fee and
children ages 15 and younger, accompanied by an adult, are admitted to
the park at no cost. All walking tours offered by the Steamtown NHS staff,
including museum access and the park movie, “Steel and Steam,” are included
in the entrance fee. Train reservations must be pre-paid, and tickets are
non-refundable unless an excursion is cancelled by Park Management. We
accept all major credit and debit cards.
The
popular “Scranton Limited” short train rides will operate Mondays through
Saturdays during July and August at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 and 2:30
p.m. On Sundays we offer the “Nay Aug Gorge Limited” short train rides
that transport visitors to the Nay Aug Tunnel entrance on the same timetable.
Tickets to ride either train cost $5.00 per person, all ages 6 and older.
Located
in downtown Scranton, Pa., Steamtown NHS is open daily from 9:00 a.m. –5:00
p.m. From I-81 follow exit 185 (Central Scranton Expressway); then, follow
the brown and white signs to the park entrance at Lackawanna and Cliff
Avenues (GPS: N 41.41, W 75.67). General park information is available
