Syracuse, NY – March 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / John Kay & Steppenwolf, the band that first made popular the term ‘heavy metal,’ will perform at Chevy Court during the 2014 Great New York State Fair at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 25, Acting New York State Commissioner of Agriculture Richard A. Ball announced Friday (February 28).

Founding member Kay, who lived for a time in Buffalo before moving to California and forming what would become Steppenwolf, has been the band’s leader since its first days in 1967. It’s his voice that blasted from the radio on signature hits “Born To Be Wild” and “Magic Carpet Ride.” Both singles remain staples of classic rock radio and continue to be heavily identified with riding motorcycles on the open road because of their appearance on the soundtrack for the classic film, “Easy Rider.”

“This is the first of many announcements of top-quality performances for the Chevy Court stage. I encourage everyone to circle these dates on your calendar and visit the Great New York State Fair for great food, music, entertainment, and the best of New York State agriculture,” said Acting Commissioner Ball.
