Syracuse, NY – March 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / New York State Acting Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball announces that Anne Burrell will cook and perform at Chevy Court during the Great New York State Fair. Burrell will take the stage at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27.

“Hooray! I’m so excited to have been asked to take part in the New York State Fair. I have been going since I was a kid and I feel like it’s a bit of a homecoming,” said Burrell.

“Chevy Court is about providing some of the very best entertainment. It’s even better when we can provide a showcase for one of New York’s own, and one of the best-known, most entertaining chefs in America. I can’t wait to see what she cooks up for our Fairgoers,” said Ball.

Cazenovia Native Chef Anne Burrell Brings Her Savory Cooking Skills to the Great New York State FairWith her trademark spiky blonde hair and pumped-up personality, Anne Burrell has traveled a long culinary path from her Madison County home and English and communications degree from Canisius College to some of the top restaurants in the world and ultimately to fame on the Food Network. After college, Burrell decided to follow her love of food. She studied at the Culinary Institute of America, and after that, at a culinary school in Italy. Returning to New York City, she worked as a sous chef under famed chef Lidia Bastianich, began teaching at the Culinary Institute of America, and then joined a company owned by Bastianich and famous chef Mario Batali. Batali eventually chose her to serve as his sous chef on Food Network’s Iron Chef America. From there, her television career blossomed. Burrell has been a guest on Access Hollywood, TODAY, Good Morning America, The Chelsea Handler Show, Bloomberg’s Taking Stock and CBS This Morning.

Now, she is a one-woman industry, hosting Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, Chef Wanted, and Worst Cooks in America for Food Network, and writing the cookbooks “Cook Like a Rock Star” and “Own Your Kitchen: Recipes to Inspire and Empower.” Cooking, she says, is her true passion.

Several other performances have already been announced for Chevy Court for the 2014 Fair. They include John Kay and Steppenwolf, Bowzer’s Rock n’ Roll Show, and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.

The Great New York State Fair, operated by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, runs from August 21 – September 1, 2014. The Fair’s mission, reflected in its 2014 theme, “Summer’s Best in Show,” is to showcase the best of New York agriculture while providing top-quality entertainment.

In addition to the annual New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious horse and livestock shows.

The home of the Great New York State Fair is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates all year. A year-round schedule of events is available on the Fair’s website.
