Syracuse,
NY – August 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / In August, 1964, teenagers
were having “A Hard Day’s Night” summer. Hordes of fans were packing movie
theatres, the famous opening chord of the single was the signal for them
to start dancing, and the soundtrack album was flying off record store
shelves. It was the year that The Beatles came to America, the year that
rock n’ roll changed forever. The Great
New York State Fair offers fairgoers a chance to relive those years
on Wednesday, August 27 at 8:00 p.m. when the tribute group Beatlemania
Again performs for free in the Empire Theater, Acting State Fair Director
Troy Waffner announced Tuesday (August 12).
The theater will be set up
for dancing, with a handful of tables and a large dance floor to accommodate
those who want to twist and shout to some of the greatest songs of all
time. The show runs until 9:30 p.m.
Beatlemania Again is a veteran
four-piece national touring show that traces The Beatles’ career from the
band’s debut on The Ed Sullivan Show to its final live performance just
five years later. The band uses no pre-recorded backing music and no off-stage
musicians in order to create an authentic look and sound.
“This show is one of the
new entertainment options we’re presenting in the Empire Theater and I
just know this show is going to delight people who love the classic songs
of The Beatles. I encourage everyone to stop by that night to rediscover
– or discover for the first time – the music of one of the world’s greatest
bands,” said Waffner.
The performance is one
of four special events being held in the Empire Theater this year, as the
Fair continues to broaden its entertainment options. The other events are:
-
Standup comedy from The Comedians
from Chelsea Lately, on Saturday, August 23 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for this
event are $20 and are available at the State Fair Box Office
-
The Brady Bunch Reunion, a moderated
discussion with three former Brady Bunch kids, on Sunday, August 24 at
8:00 p.m. Tickets for this event are $20 and are available at the State
Fair Box Office.
-
The Miss New York State Fair
talent pageant, on Saturday, August 30, featuring a free talent show that
evening.
The new events in the Empire
Theater are among the more than two dozen new attractions and events taking
place at the 2014 Great New York State Fair, highlighted by the all-new
Wade Shows Midway. Other major activities, such as the Dairy Cow Birthing
Center and the “Taste NY” Wine, Beer, and Spirits Bar at the Colonnade,
have been expanded due to fairgoer demand. This year’s tagline – “New Attractions,
Old Favorites, Timeless Fun” – highlights the comprehensive effort to rejuvenate
the Fair.
The New
York State Fair, operated by the New
York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, runs from August
21 – September 1, 2014. The Fair’s mission, reflected in its 2014 theme,
“Summer’s Best in Show,” is to showcase the best of New York agriculture
while providing top-quality entertainment. This year’s tagline – “New Attractions,
Old Favorites, Timeless Fun” – highlights the more than two dozen new events
and attractions and the expansion or enhancement of several Fairgoer favorites.
In addition to the annual
New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events
throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious
horse and livestock shows.
The home of the Great New
York State Fair is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates
all year. A year-round schedule of events is available on the Fair’s
website.
