Hopkinton, MA – February 2015 / Newsmaker Alert / Outside Interactive, a Hopkinton, MA based developer of forward motion video technology for indoor exercising, today announced it is partnering with the Boston’s Run to Remember to create a virtual race-day experience. This will enable future runners to relive the day, train on the famous course prior to race day, and even compete remotely no matter where they are in the world, at their own pace on any treadmill.

Exclusive footage will be shot the day of this year’s half marathon and 5 mile run on May 24th, immediately prior to the live event. Footage is shot from a runner’s point of view to produce a high-definition video. Through Outside Interactive’s patent pending Virtual Runner application, participants are able to interactively run to this video on any treadmill while using their iPad® or Android® tablet. With cheering spectators lining the roads it is an exciting way to train or simply enjoy this beautiful course. Also, when inclement weather, travel, or deployment prevents you from being on the course itself you will still be able to participate in this event regardless of where you are.

“Boston is where Outside Interactive was founded and this is a great opportunity to proudly show the heart of our historic city, through a virtual interactive race day experience in Boston’s Run to Remember, ” stated Gary McNamee, Outside Interactive’s President and Founder. “We’re excited to be able to partner with a race raising money for a great charity.”

Boston’s Run to Remember starts and finishes along Boston’s Seaport District. The Seaport District on Boston’s Waterfront has become a destination neighborhood over the past several years. It is also conveniently located near world-class museums such as the Institute of Contemporary Art and the Boston Children’s Museum. Close proximity to Faneuil Hall Marketplace and the seaport areas, new restaurants, museums, shopping, art galleries, and the HarborWalk makes this location an ideal place to experience Boston.

“I had the opportunity to witness Outside Interactive’s Virtual Runner technology at this year’s Running USA Conference in New Orleans and knew immediately we had to make this part of our race experience,“ stated Steve Balfour, Executive Director of Boston’s Run to Remember. “Right away I could envision law enforcement officers, or anyone for that matter, from around the country or even around the world, taking part in our event as remote participants, enjoying all the sights our city has to offer, while helping to raise money for a very worthy cause.”

Outside Interactive’s use of state-of-the-art cameras, filming, and editing techniques, combined with its free downloadable app called “Virtual Runner”, allows you to watch and interactively control the video on any treadmill with Windows®, iPad® or Android® platforms. A brief demonstration can be found here outsideinteractive.com/wearable-technology. Samples of various race courses, popular running routes and scenic destinations can be viewed at outsideinteractive.com/previews.

Boston’s Run to Remember is the only 13.1 distance race that takes the runners through the scenic and historic routes of downtown Boston. The race starts and finishes at the Seaport World Trade Center – a newly rejuvenated and bustling area of the completely reinvigorated South Boston waterfront – and treks through historic neighborhoods like Beacon Hill, Back Bay, Charlestown, the Boston Garden and Commonwealth Ave. The race has become a staple of the New England race calendar and pays tribute to Massachusetts Law Enforcement Officers killed in the line of duty by celebrating their lives and giving back to the community. Taking place on Memorial Day weekend annually, honoring the service of fallen Officers, on a course in arguably the most historic city in the nation; this race has become a destination event for many of our participants and offers a one of a kind experience. Net proceeds of the race benefit local youth and community policing programs sponsored by the Boston Police Runner’s Club and the state’s law enforcement memorial. Additionally, the race raises over $300,000 for more than a dozen local charities, including the Alzheimer’s Association, Children’s Hospital, MDA, Easter Seals and Sole Train.
