Pigeon
Forge, TN – February 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / Pigeon Forge is
one of five cities across the Southeast that editors of ConventionSouth
Magazine have named “Rising Destinations for Meetings” for 2014.
The others are Nashville;
Fairfax, Va., in suburban Washington, D.C.; Spartanburg, S.C.; and Owensboro,
Ky.
Editors cited the impact
of the LeConte Center at Pigeon
Forge as the primary reason for choosing Pigeon
Forge. The $45 million special event center opened last October and
already has hosted multiple events, some with attendances of more than
10,000 people.
Other factors the editors
mentioned were the emerging entertainment and dining opportunities at the
Island in Pigeon Forge and the continuing expansion at Dollywood.
Various factors favored the
four other cities on the list. Nashville has opened the Music City Center,
which has 1.2 million square feet of event space; Owensboro has a new convention
center; Spartanburg’s primary convention hotel has had a multi-million
dollar renovation; and Fairfax has new Metrorail service linking it to
Washington and growth in the Tysons Corner area.

or Renovated Meeting Site.”
“The LeConte Event Center
and all the other development in Pigeon Forge make us a great destination
for many types of events and gatherings. Event planners who never considered
us before are knocking on our door,” said Leon Downey, executive director
of the Pigeon Forge Department
of Tourism.
