In
2006, Josh Thompson, son of Bruce Thompson, founder of Gold Key Resorts
was diagnosed with ALS. Bruce and his family tirelessly dedicate their
time to raising awareness of the disease and the search for a cure.
ALS,
or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease
that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. ALS, commonly
known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, typically strikes people between the ages
of 40 – 70.
The
JT Walk’s first achievement was a handicap accessible park in Virginia
Beach. Now in its seventh year it is one of the largest annual fundraising
events in the United States. It mission supports the needs of thousands
of veterans, Gold Star families, and those with disabilities. This year’s
walk will be held on October 18 with a goal to raise $15,000,000.00. Over
2,300 walkers will descend on Virginia Beach to show support for this important
cause.
In
addition to SPI Software’s corporate support, Gordon McClendon, SPI’s VP
of Client Services makes a personal commitment of time and money. “The
JT Walk is important and valuable in so many ways. In addition to raising
funds to fight this terrible disease, it also shows the true spirit inside
each of us to work together and care for one another,” states McClendon.
The
2015 JT Walk is on October 18 at the Boardwalk on 31st Street in Virginia
Beach. (The event was originally scheduled to be held on October 4, but
was postponed due to weather.) Registration begins at 9:00 AM, EST. Donations
