“Salishan
was created as a pure concept – a special place for people to connect with
each other, with nature and with art,” said Ken Cruse, founding partner
and chief executive officer of Alpha Wave. “We plan to bring Salishan back
to its roots, but in a way that resonates with modern travelers. The new
Salishan will cater to people who respect the planet as deeply as they
care for their own personal wellness. The new Salishan will appeal to people
who value experiences over material things. The new Salishan will draw
people who seek out adventure as well as relaxation. The new Salishan will
serve people who appreciate tranquility and solitude as much as camaraderie
and personal connections.”
To support its new vision for Salishan, Alpha Wave has initiated a multi-million dollar investment into the property. The capital program will include enhancements to the guest arrival and landscaping, upgrades to the lobby and attic lounge, a new luxury glamping experience, a treetop canopy tour and ropes challenge course, high-energy mountain biking trails and technical features, and new curated art programs. Alpha Wave has engaged Portland-based ELK Collective to lead the design efforts, Tigard-based Synergo to develop the eco-adventure facilities and Lifescapes International to design the landscaping and arrival enhancements. Salishan’s new management company, Portfolio Hotels & Resorts (“Portfolio”) is reworking Salishan’s service model to create a high-touch, upscale, welcoming guest experience. Additionally, wellness will be embraced as a core value resort-wide. Wellness programming will emphasize positive reflection and growth, while strengthening the mind, body and soul. Salishan’s new culinary program will focus on casual coast-to-table dining. A new on-site garden and locally-caught fresh seafood will be the foundation of the culinary program. The property also is developing relationships with passionate farmers, fishermen, brewers, winemakers and artisans to highlight the bounty of the Oregon coast and range. The new culinary program will be offered in venues that are warm and unpretentious and designed to foster social connections. The changes at Salishan are intended to complement recently completed improvements at the resort. Salishan’s 205 spacious guest rooms recently were fully renovated with new soft and hard goods. The design and décor connects the property to its wooded setting but includes important elements that today’s modern traveler is seeking such as spacious sitting areas, multiple USB charging ports, new outdoor decks and patio furniture. Public spaces throughout the resort also received a refresh with new furniture, paint and accessories. The paintings, sculptures and creative installations that the resort has curated throughout its history remain a mainstay throughout the property. The works of Northwest artists, primarily Oregon based, have been displayed throughout the lodge and more than 500 original drawings, prints and watercolors in guest rooms.
