The Many Forms of Content, by Timothy Schneider, Publisher, SportsTravel
|
Los Angeles, CA – May 2016 / Newsmaker Alert / Since 1997, SportsTravel magazine has served as a trusted source of information for the sports-event industry. As we approach our 20th anniversary, we’ve been busy preparing for this milestone by creating even more ways to be of service to sports-event organizers and those who host and support their events. In addition to the digital and print editions of this magazine, our commitment as an information resource extends to the planning of the TEAMS Conference & Expo, which this year will offer our most robust educational program ever. Organizing a multifaceted live event such as TEAMS also provides key insights into the world of event planning. Those insights then further inform our editorial content in all of its various forms.

The Many Forms of Content, by Timothy Schneider, Publisher, SportsTravelIndeed, content is a term that is more broadly defined by media companies than it once was. At our company, we’ve embraced a “mobile first” philosophy for content delivery. Mobile first is a further permutation of the “digital first” approach we embraced with the advent of the Internet and the subsequent launch of digital versions of our magazines. Where once SportsTravel was updated for our readers 10 times a year, our editors now continually update the information we provide in real time through our social media channels and on SportsTravelMagazine.com. If you’re serious about staying up-to-date on the important news from the sports-event industry, our late-breaking news alerts are available by subscription on our website or by following us on the most popular social media sites.

As an additional component of our mobile first strategy, many of our stories now come to life through interactive features in our digital editions and through creative video storytelling. The videos serve as a supplement to the content featured in the magazine and are popular among those who want a quick, easy-to-digest summary or appreciate the visual elements of a story. And many of the growing number of videos now offered through our social media channels and SportsTraveIMagazine.com augment the coverage in the magazine, including exclusive interviews with prominent figures in the sports world.

Leading our company’s charge on content strategy is Jen Rottenberg, chief content officer. Our editorial staff, led by Editor Jason Gewirtz, includes several talented content specialists, including Jennifer Lee, who was recently promoted to senior associate editor; Timothy Maxwell, who was recently promoted to senior manager of digital and social media/web editor; and Javier Mosquera, our video content producer. And our commitment to the industry goes beyond our content as well. We are proud that Editor Jason Gewirtz has been selected to serve a two-year term on the board of directors of the National Association of Sports Commissions (please see story on page 6). We believe Jason’s expertise in the world of sporting events will serve the NASC board well as it guides that key organization into the future.

For sports-specific content that really comes to life, plan now to join us September 26-29 at TEAMS ‘16 in Atlantic City. The program will include educational tracks on technology, sponsorship, event operations, hosts cities, the law and ethics, and one for sports-organization CEOs. For more information, please see page 22, visit TEAMsconference.com or call 877-577-3700.
