The Importance of Specialization, by Timothy Schneider, Publisher, SportsTravel
|
Los Angeles, CA – October 2015 / Newsmaker Alert / From the launch of SportsTravel magazine in 1997, we have approached the sports-event industry as a market segment deserving of its own resources. Sports-event organizers have different needs and concerns than their meetings-industry counterparts at non-sports organizations. And while we have always seen the value in pitching the largest tent possible for the sports-event industry, we also see great value in publishing this magazine and organizing the TEAMS Conference specifically for people who work in sports. (For the non-sports audience, we organize the Meetings Quest series of trade shows, which features content for corporate and association meeting planners.)

The Importance of Specialization, by Timothy Schneider, Publisher, SportsTravelIn this spirit TEAMS ’15 will feature our largest educational program ever with five tracks of specialized, in-depth programming covering topics such as event operations, new technology, youth participation in sports, marketing and international growth opportunities for sports organizations. We have curated more than two dozen educational sessions featuring the brightest minds in the sports-event industry that will help sports-industry professionals manage and host events more effectively. The programming highlights at TEAMS ’15 include:
  • Two dozen pre-conference and concurrent sessions featuring leading practitioners from the sports-event industry. One such session will examine operational best practices from industry veterans with experience at organizations such as the U.S. Olympic Committee, the NFL, the NBA and Major League Baseball. Other sessions will look at bringing international sports to the United States and exporting events created in the U.S. to other countries; starting a sports organization from scratch; innovations in destination marketing; health and safety trends in youth sports; how to successfully negotiate sports-group contracts with hotels; structuring sports marketing strategies to resonate with each generational group; and employing the latest technology to make sporting events more successful.
  • Daily general sessions, including a session on women succeeding in the male-dominated world of sports media featuring ESPN’s Jessica Mendoza and Fox’s Jamie Little; a Veterans Day session on how sports has helped our wounded veterans heal and restart their lives; and a closing-day session with the legendary Harvey Schiller, who has led some of the most successful organizations in sports.
  • Three Event Match Luncheons, which are open to event organizers, exhibitors and sponsors, will combine lunch with a reverse trade show. With this innovative approach, we’re offering an additional four hours of time for business networking on top of the eight hours that the TEAMS Expo will be open.
  • The SportsTravel Awards Gala, our annual celebration of excellence in sportsevent management and production, will be held on Tuesday evening, November 10, on the basketball court at the iconic Thomas & Mack Center. The awards gala and after-party are included with the registration fee for TEAMS ’15.
If you’re in sports, the TEAMS Conference is the can’t-miss event. For more details, please see the TEAMS ’15 Conference Program, beginning on page 29.
