Historic Mayfair Hotel Reopens as Magnolia Hotel
Williams Promoted to Hotel Manager at Magnolia Hotel Houston
St. Louis, MO – August 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / On Tuesday (August 12), the historic Mayfair Hotel reopened its doors as the Magnolia Hotel. The property closed in late 2013 for a multi-million dollar renovation and reopened as a boutique property designed to meet the needs and desires of today’s traveler. More than 100 people attended the opening celebration, which featured local dignitaries such as Executive Director of the St. Louis Development Corporation Otis Williams, Alderwoman Phyllis Young and President of the Explore St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission Kathleen “Kitty” Ratcliffe.

A magnolia garland was strung between a 1925 Ford Model T representing the year the hotel originally opened and a Tesla, the house car for the new hotel. The St. Louis Cardinals’ Fredbird helped open the property by sitting in the Model T as it pulled away and broke the garland, signifying the opening of the hotel. Fredbird then led guests into the new property and was the official first check-in of the Magnolia Hotel.

A historic St. Louis landmark, the Mayfair Hotel was purchased by Stout Street Hospitality, which incorporated it under their Magnolia brand. Stout Street Hospitality preserved the property’s historic character and features, while integrating boutique elements and design. The Mayfair, in its heyday, welcomed the likes of Douglas Fairbanks, Cary Grant, Irving Berlin, and John Barrymore, as well as Presidents Harry S. Truman and Lyndon B. Johnson. This era of glamour and majesty was an inspiration behind the look and feel of today’s Magnolia.

Having been named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, the hotel remains modern and elegant with contemporary amenities and extreme attention to detail. Stout Street Hospitality, the company behind the Magnolia brand, has spent decades perfecting the boutique experience, a feat that today’s larger resorts are now striving to incorporate.

Situated in the heart of downtown St. Louis, the 182-room Magnolia is within walking distance of numerous attractions. A true boutique property, amenities are all about detail and were put in place to make every guest feel important. They include complimentary breakfast, an evening beer and wine reception, and downtown town car transportation, as well as the customary chocolate on the pillow – a tradition inspired and essentially established by Grant, who while a guest of the Mayfair, left a trail of chocolates leading his paramour to his suite.
