Verona,
NY – April 2015 / Newsmaker Alert / In May, the Oneida Nation is celebrating
another momentous milestone – 25 years of continuous High-Stakes Bingo.
While the 25th anniversary symbolizes a time when the Oneida Nation marked
a new beginning, the history of High-Stakes Bingo dates back to the 1970s.
The first American Indian government to offer gaming operations on sovereign
land, the Oneida Nation made its gaming debut in 1979 with twice-a-weekend
bingo from double-wide trailers. After a storied start with irregular bingo
games in multiple bingo halls, the Oneida Nation opened a new home for
High-Stakes Bingo on May 17, 1990 on Territory Road and has been hosting
bingo games ever since. Oneida Nation Bingo moved to its current location
at Turning Stone Resort Casino
in 1995 and is now considered to be one of the top three bingo halls in
the world.*
Oneida
Nation Representative and Nation Enterprises CEO Ray Halbritter said, “Oneida
Nation Bingo was the beginning of American Indian gaming in this country,
and we are extremely proud of that. What began as a modest twice-a-weekend
bingo operation has evolved into a premier destination resort with non-stop
gaming and entertainment, award-winning hotels and world-class restaurants.”
The
month-long 25th anniversary celebration begins on Friday, May 1st and continues
until Sunday, May 31st:
May
1 – 31 festivities include:
-
Special
games including “Jackpot Anniversary Ball”

Throwback
games such as the beloved “Lollipop Tree”
-

of the Oneida Nation’s Bingo Exhibition, which will be located inside the
bingo hall at Turning Stone Resort Casino.

are invited to temporarily donate their iconic High-Stakes Bingo memorabilia
from the past 25 years for the exhibition and will have their photo displayed
in the Bingo Hall for the 25th anniversary celebration
On
Sunday, May 31, the celebration concludes with a special 25th anniversary
party, which will include:
-
A surprise
guest caller
-
Special
anniversary games
-
Live entertainment
-
Anniversary
cupcakes for all bingo players
-
And more
surprises
Turning
Stone’s talented pastry chefs will also create an extravagant 25th anniversary
cake, which will be on display in the Turning Stone Winter Garden on Saturday,
May 30 and Sunday, May 31.
The
Oneida Nation is expanding its bingo operations this year with the opening
of Yellow Brick Road Casino, a new $20 million, 67,000 square foot casino
with a 500 seat bingo hall in the Village of Chittenango. In addition to
the new bingo hall, Yellow Brick Road Casino will also feature more than
430 Vegas-style cash slot machines and several casual dining options. The
new facility will complement existing Oneida Nation businesses and bring
diversification to guests, appealing to locals interested in the excitement
of slot machines and bingo, while grabbing a quick, casual meal. Yellow
Brick Road Casino is projected to open in early summer 2015.
