30+ events are part of Lebanon, KY’s two-month long ‘Holiday Happenings’
|
Lebanon, KY – October 2014 / Newsmaker Alert / Christmas arrives in Lebanon, Ky., on. Nov. 7 this year with a two-day Downtown Shopping Holiday Open House. This central Kentucky town celebrates the season throughout November and December with lots of merrymaking and a million lights – moonshine, too. See Lebanon’s Calendar of Events for all 30-plus activities taking place during its two-month-long Holiday Happenings.

Lights, action, Santa!
Enter “Christmas in the Park” at Lebanon’s Graham Park to see a winter wonderland of lights and decorations, nightly Nov. 26-Jan. 2. Need more illumination? Head to Loretto and Ruley’s Santa Claus Land, Nov. 28-Jan, to see 1 million lights aglow. On Dec. 6, it’s time to Light up Willisburg at 5 p.m. on Main Street and accompanied by music, wagon rides and a visit from Santa. 

Speaking of . . . there will be photo ops with Santa on Nov. 28 during Lebanon’s Dickens Christmas on Main. Join the crowd for the official Tree Lighting, Lebanon Main Street parade, train rides, carolers, live nativity and chili cook-off. You’ll also see the world’s most famous elf at Loretto’s Christmas Parade on Dec. 5. Come for the Tree Lighting ceremony at 5:45 pm.; the parade kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Then, at 10 a.m. on Dec. 6, head to downtown Springfield for the “Santa Claus is Coming to Town Walk.”

Staging Christmas
Everyone’s favorite holiday productions take to the stage during Holiday Happenings: “A Christmas Carol Jr.,” presented by Kentucky Classic Theater, 7 p.m. Dec. 4-6, at Lebanon’s Angelic Hall; and “It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play,” performed on Dec. 12-14 and 19-21 at Springfield’s Central Ky. Community Theater. 

The spotlight is on music on Dec. 5-6 for Springfield’s “Beautiful Music of Christmas” when the Mid-Kentucky Chorus presents its annual Christmas concert.

Enjoy “Christmas in the Country,” an old-fashioned Christmas celebration, in Bradfordsville, and “Christmas in Mackville,” 5:30 p.m. Dec. 13, which includes a music show and handmade crafts. On Saturdays in Loretto, it’s “Xmas at XB Arena,” featuring unusual merrymaking with “Mutton Bustin” (sheep riding), plus bull riding contests and a visit by Santa.

Homemade holidays and holiday home tours
Lebanon’s Arts & Craft Fair takes place at the Marion County Heritage Center on Nov. 28 and 29. In Springfield, the Christmas Crafters Market & Bakery takes place on Dec. 6, with artisans selling fine arts and crafts and bakery goods. 

Get holiday decorating ideas on several area home tours. The 1851 Historic Maple Hill Manor opens its doors 1-5 p.m. on Saturdays for tours, live music and refreshments. Saint Dominic’s Second Annual Holiday Home Tour takes place 4-8 p.m. Dec. 6 in Springfield. Also on Dec. 6 in Springfield is Serano Alpaca & Yarns Open House and Farm Tour, 2-6 p.m.

Making spirits bright
Take a candlelight tour of Maker’s Mark’s historic distillery and charming 1850s Victorian village on Dec. 6 and 13. Enjoy refreshments and pick up a souvenir Christmas bottle of bourbon. Horseshoe Bend Winery is hosting an open house in the tasting room on Dec. 6, 13 and 20, that includes a wrapping party and songs of the season.

Moonshine & Mistletoe takes place Mondays through Saturdays at Limestone Branch Distillery, featuring refreshments and a chance to meet the Master Distiller. Have yourself a Whitemoon Christmas, Mondays through Saturdays, at WhiteMoon Winery. And take a peek inside the Kentucky Cooperage on tours scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays.
