Bluegrass Concert Series
Brings Nationally Acclaimed Acts to Owensboro
|
Owensboro, KY – January 2016 / Newsmaker Alert / Although the summertime bluegrass festival season is months away, music is already playing at the International Bluegrass Music Museum in Owensboro.

The museum, recognized for preserving and celebrating bluegrass where it began in Western Kentucky, is hosting a concert series with nationally acclaimed acts from late January through mid-May. Concerts benefit the museum’s educational outreach programs, artifact collection efforts and a video oral history project.

“The concerts make for great weekend getaways,” said Shannon Wetzel, executive director of Visit Owensboro. “Start with bluegrass, and then add our great food, wonderful shopping and fine lodging to make a memorable stay.”

The series launches Jan. 22 with Nashville-based Sheriff Scott and the Deputies. The Banksters take the stage on Feb. 12, followed on Feb. 26 by the vivacious and soulful sounds of Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellys.

The incredible flat-picking of Jon Stickley and the Jon Stickley Trio is on tap March 12, and prestigious mandolin player Sierra Hull performs on March 31.

Grammy-nominated duo Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley play April 22. The series concludes May 12 with St. Louis-based songwriter Pokey LaFarge.

Shows begin at 7 p.m., with light food and cash bar available. Season passes for all seven shows are $115. Prices for individual shows range from $15 to $25.

With seating for 130 people, the venue creates an intimate setting for the audience to connect with performers.

The concert series leads to two exciting events later in 2016. Those are ROMP Fest, Owensboro’s annual bluegrass festival from June 22-25, and groundbreaking for the International Bluegrass Music Center. That $15 million project will relocate the museum just blocks from its current location in downtown Owensboro.

The new facility will be twice the size of the today’s museum and will feature a 500-seat concert hall, a 2,000-seat outdoor concert area, a research library, teaching rooms and a rooftop restaurant overlooking the Ohio River.
