Wilmington, NC – March 2015 / Newsmaker Alert / Right on cue, spring has arrived in Wilmington, North Carolina and its island beaches, with high temperatures already reaching into the 60s and 70s! Surrounded by water—the Atlantic Ocean to the east, the Cape Fear River to the west and the Intracoastal Waterway and marshes, lakes and creeks in-between—Wilmington and its island beaches providesone destination with four distinctive coastal settings. From the river to the sea there are parks and gardens in bloom, and abundant outdoor recreational opportunities for hiking, cycling, paddling, surfing, fishing, and golfing.

After a long and arduous winter across the U.S., it’s time to go with the flow…and see where the water takes you. For your review and consideration, we provide a link to our electronic 2015 Official Visitors Guide for Wilmington, N.C.’s historic river district and island beaches. This year’s cover features Kure Beach Oceanfront Park, a serene seaside public park: 365publicationsonline.com/WilmingtonVG2015.

Nature’s beauty is also showcased along the shoreline and in Wilmington’s historic river district, recently voted the #1 Best American Riverfront (USA TODAY 10Best Reader’s Choice). Other great vantage points for stunning waterway views include The Loop fitness trail at Wrightsville Beach and our two waterfront state parks: Carolina Beach State Park and Fort Fisher State Recreation Area. Visitors will also enjoy recent renovations to the iconic Carolina Beach Boardwalk. For a showcase of flowers and botanicals, it’s hard to beat Airlie Gardens in the springtime.

Island events include the Pleasure Island Chowder Cook-off (April 11) and the Carolina Beach Boardwalk renovation celebration (March 30). There’s also the Wrightsville Beach Waterman Ocean Festival / Wrightsville Beach SUP Surfing Pro-Am, a 2-day Standup Surf event (April 17-19). May gets off to a tasty start with the Wilmington Wine and Food Festival at the Bellamy Mansion (May 1-3) and wraps with the Orange Street Arts Fest in Wilmington (May 23-24). Visitors seeking a Hollywood East experience will enjoy spring/summer weekend tours of EUE/Screen Gems Studios, which resume on March 28 with sets from the CBS series “Under the Dome” and ABC’s “Secrets & Lies”.
